Support Groups

By choosing to pursue metabolic or bariatric surgery, you have made a life-altering decision to take control of your weight, your health, and your life! For many severely obese individuals, today’s advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques offer a safe, effective way to achieve real, lasting weight loss and “cure” many obesity-related health problems. However, weight loss surgery is just one tool in your toolbox; participation in regular weight loss support group meetings is another. When these two important tools are combined with critical lifestyles changes such as maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen, your chances of achieving the weight loss you want increase astronomically.

Dr. Wiljon Beltre, Board Certified lead surgeon at The Center for Metabolic and Obesity Surgery in Altamonte Springs, Florida, believes that your weight loss journey begins—not ends—when you leave the hospital after your surgery, and has built his surgical practice on the belief that true weight loss success requires a multifaceted, comprehensive approach incorporating long-term follow-up and support. His team is dedicated to offering a weight loss support group that is educational, where you can continue to learn about weight loss, your health, and nutrition and diet, and positive, where your successes are celebrated and the challenges you face are understood. Weight loss is never something that should be attempted alone; at The Center for Metabolic and Obesity Surgery, we make it our job to ensure that you never feel alone.

We would like to invite you to participate in the monthly meetings of our Bariatric Surgery Support Group.  Run by our Certified Nutritionist Meredith Luce, the goal of these meetings is to discuss a wide array of topics of interest to all weight loss surgery patients, as well as those considering weight loss surgery. These meetings will give you an opportunity to share your experiences, express any frustrations or difficulties you may be experiencing with a sympathetic group of listeners, and even brag—yes, brag—about your weight loss progress and successful experiences with others who can appreciate how important even small successes can be! You will have the opportunity to ask questions, gain additional information and insight through shared experiences and group discussions, and gain comfort and strength through knowing that you are not alone as you progress through recovery and into your new life. These meetings are informal, very informative, and a lot of fun. Please join us and come prepared with your questions!
